Another of My Ogallala Commentaries to Air on NPR


In this piece for Public Radio International's "Living on Earth," which airs on 300
NPR stations, I draw on little-known facts about the Ogallala, such as how
much water Plains farmers pump out of it each year: six trillion gallons,
or 1.5 trillion more than the Colorado carries to the Southwestern United
States.

In "Running Dry on the Great Plains," I argue now that the Ogallala Aquifer has
saved Nebraska farmers from the Keystone pipeline, it is time for us to save the
aquifer from farmers.
